Prince Harry’s Royal Roast: From Comedy to Controversy

Prince Harry recently stirred the pot during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, turning a festive comedy sketch into an unscripted political moment that left the audience divided.

What started as a light-hearted Hallmark-style Christmas spoof took a sharp turn when the Duke of Sussex, 41, quipped that Americans must be so “fascinated” with monarchy that they “elected a king” in Donald Trump. The jab, implying Trump acted more like a monarch than a democratic leader, was met with a wave of boos from Colbert’s New York studio audience, clearly indicating the joke didn’t land well with everyone.

But Harry wasn’t done. He quickly pivoted from comedic digs to pointed commentary, bringing up CBS’s recent $36 million legal settlement with Trump. The lawsuit alleged CBS manipulated footage of an interview involving Vice President Kamala Harris to make Trump appear confused. Harry, however, didn’t mince words, calling Trump’s complaint “baseless.”

Stephen Colbert was quick to distance himself from the network’s legal troubles, sharply stating, “I didn’t do that.” Despite Colbert’s attempts to steer the segment back to humor, Harry’s remarks made for an unmistakably political moment.

This appearance marks one of Harry’s more overtly political stances on U.S. television, once again highlighting his complex relationship with both the American media landscape and an audience that remains split on his public commentary. Whether intentionally or not, the Duke certainly knows how to spark a conversation – and a little controversy.
