Great news for Willenhall town centre! The long-vacant and fire-hit former Chamberlain’s pub on Upper Lichfield Street is finally getting a new lease on life. Plans have just been approved to transform this historic building into a vibrant, dual-purpose space that promises to benefit the local community.
For years, the Chamberlain’s building has been an eyesore, standing empty since 2016 and suffering significant fire damage in 2021. But thanks to the proactive vision of the New Testament Church of God, located just down the street, this neglected property is set for a remarkable transformation.
The approved plans will see the front half of the building converted into a modern 12-bed House of Multiple Occupation (HMO). Spread across two storeys, each resident will enjoy their own en-suite facilities, sharing modern kitchen spaces – providing much-needed quality accommodation in the area.
But that’s not all! The truly exciting part is the rear of the property. Currently a roofless shell due to the fire, it will be lovingly rebuilt and transformed into a fantastic multi-use community events space. Imagine a new hub for gatherings, celebrations, and local activities, complete with catering and toilet facilities, easily accessible from Angel Passage.
This project is more than just a renovation; it’s a revitalization. Not only does it bring a dilapidated building back into productive use, but it also preserves a piece of Willenhall’s heritage, as the rear section dates back to the mid-19th century and is locally listed. This development promises to inject new energy and purpose into the heart of Willenhall, turning a sad relic into a beacon of community spirit.
