Shocking Report: Iran’s Human Rights Crisis Worsens

A new report paints a disturbing picture of human rights in Iran during 2025, revealing a sharp increase in abuses across the board. The Human Rights Activists (HRA) annual statistical report highlights a particularly grim year, with record numbers of executions, widespread suppression of free speech, and horrific treatment of prisoners.

Perhaps the most alarming statistic is the staggering 1,922 executions recorded – the highest in over a decade and double the previous year. What’s even more chilling is that 95% of these executions were carried out in secret, shrouded from public view. This crackdown extended to freedom of expression, with over 22,000 arrests for thought and speech-related offenses, a thirteen-fold increase from 2024.

Inside Iran’s prisons, the situation is dire. Thousands of prisoners endure inappropriate conditions, denied basic rights like legal counsel, phone calls, or medical leave. Sentences are equally brutal: the report details over 5,000 lashes handed down, alongside horrific punishments like amputations and “limb retribution,” where victims are granted the right to inflict similar injuries on their perpetrators.

Vulnerable groups also faced severe challenges. Religious minorities, including a significant number of Jews, experienced home searches and property violations, with arrests doubling in the last year. The report also uncovered over 70,000 cases of child labor and at least 23,000 instances of child abuse. Tragically, it noted 1,474 babies born to mothers as young as 10 to 14.

The HRA stresses that these numbers are only the cases that became public. The true scale of human rights abuses in Iran, kept largely hidden, is likely far greater, demanding urgent international attention.
