Imagine dedicating years to your profession, building your savings, only to have them vanish into thin air because of a clever online trap. That’s the painful reality Dr. Amita Garg faced when she lost a staggering Rs 22.7 lakh to a sophisticated cyber fraud syndicate.
The good news is, the Delhi Police have cracked down on this operation, arresting two men from Haryana who facilitated the scam through a fraudulent stock trading application. Dr. Garg’s ordeal began innocently enough. She was added to a messaging app group, ‘Stan Chart Dialogue Forum L7,’ where administrators like ‘Yalini Guna’ offered seemingly expert advice on stock investments. Soon, she was persuaded to invest via a dedicated mobile app, provided through a download link.
Initially, Dr. Garg invested a smaller sum, around Rs 2.7 lakh. The app conveniently displayed impressive-looking profits, building her trust. However, when she tried to withdraw her “earnings,” the pressure began. She was pushed to invest even more, convinced that larger sums would unlock her profits. In total, she transferred a massive Rs 22.70 lakh before being abruptly blocked from the app – her money, and her hopes, gone.
Acting swiftly on her complaint, the police launched a detailed investigation. They meticulously traced the money trail and analyzed call records, leading them to Sameer and Dev Singh, both 22, in Hisar. Sameer confessed to opening multiple bank accounts and handing them over to Dev Singh for a fee, effectively providing the financial conduits for the fraud. Both men have since been sent to judicial custody.
This case serves as a crucial warning. Fraudsters frequently target victims on social media, promising high returns on bogus investment schemes. They build trust using fake apps and fabricated profits, only to pressure you into larger investments before disappearing with your hard-earned money. Always be skeptical of unsolicited investment advice and applications promising unrealistic returns. If it sounds too good to be true, it almost certainly is. Protect your finances, stay vigilant online! The police are continuing their investigation to bring all members of this syndicate to justice.
