Former President Donald Trump has issued a powerful warning to Cuba: make a deal with the U.S. now, or face severe consequences. In a stark message, Trump threatened to completely cut off all Venezuelan oil and financial support that Cuba has depended on for years. He even posted in all caps on Truth Social: “THERE WILL BE NO MORE OIL OR MONEY GOING TO CUBA – ZERO!” unless Cuba agrees to U.S. terms.
Cuba has historically relied heavily on Venezuela for its energy and finances, reportedly providing “security services” in return. This lifeline is now very much at risk. This ultimatum comes after significant U.S. military actions in Venezuela, which led to the removal of President Nicolás Maduro’s government. With Maduro gone, Cuba has lost a crucial ally and its primary economic support system. Trump asserted that the U.S., “the most powerful military in the World,” is now protecting Venezuela, dramatically shifting the regional power balance.
Cuban officials are already expressing deep concern. The disappearance of Venezuelan energy and financial aid could lead to worsening shortages and serious economic hardship for the island nation. This isn’t just another warning; it’s a major escalation in U.S. pressure. It signals a sharp departure from previous engagement policies, using powerful economic leverage tied to recent geopolitical changes to push Cuba into a deal.
