The spirit of giving knows no borders, and for Mijas-based philanthropists Alan and Jenny Boardman, that spirit stretches all the way to rural Uganda. Following their incredible 2025 “Eyedrop” campaign, which delivered thousands of spectacles and school supplies, this dynamic duo is back on a second vital mission, showcasing the powerful generosity of the Costa del Sol community.
Their journey is no small feat: 10,000 kilometres and 29 hours of travel later, Alan and Jenny landed in Entebbe, Uganda. Their suitcases this time were packed not with holiday gear, but with hope – over 1,200 donated pens, pencils, and crayons, alongside funds specifically raised for essential school materials and children’s shoes.
In bustling Kampala, their first stop was a shoe wholesaler. With careful negotiation, they secured 200 pairs of durable school shoes for children – 100 for boys and 100 for girls – for approximately €748. Imagine the impact! These aren’t just shoes; for many of these children, it will be their very first proper pair. It’s a detail close to Jenny’s heart, knowing that most pupils at the recipient orphanage school have never experienced the comfort and dignity of proper footwear.
Now, with remaining funds and an eye on adding exercise books for every child, the Boardmans are embarking on a 12-hour drive to the remote Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Here, they will personally deliver these gifts to an orphanage school that has grown to serve 400 pupils, many from one-parent families.
Their mission, fueled by donations both large and small from the compassionate Costa del Sol community, is truly transforming lives, sprinkling love and hope across one of Uganda’s most remote areas.
