A shocking story has emerged from HMP Highpoint, where a female prison officer, Rebecca Pinckard, 46, has been sentenced to 32 weeks in prison after being caught engaging in a sexual act with an inmate. The most astounding detail? The illicit encounter was captured on her own body-worn video camera.
Pinckard was found with 42-year-old prisoner Erion Nakdi in a storage cupboard, an “intimate encounter” that came to light when another officer reviewed body-cam footage. The recordings, taken just minutes apart, clearly showed the sexual act. Judge Anthony Cartin noted the offence was only discovered due to “a clumsy mistake” – Pinckard’s camera being activated.
This wasn’t a one-off incident, the court heard. Pinckard had previously sent a “loving card” to Nakdi, who is serving a 16-year sentence for drug offences. Further investigations revealed explicit videos of Nakdi, filmed inside his prison cell, on Pinckard’s mobile phone, sent via social media. Pinckard admitted to misconduct in a public office.
During sentencing, it was highlighted that Pinckard had received a warning in October 2023 for being “overfamiliar” with inmates. While her defense described it as a “moment of madness” and “not a relationship” amidst personal difficulties, the judge concluded her “conduct diminishes the public confidence in the criminal justice system.”
Nakdi, who pleaded guilty to unauthorised possession of a mobile phone, received an additional 10-month sentence. This dramatic case underscores the critical importance of integrity within the prison system and the unexpected ways truth can come to light.
