Hamilton Police have made significant arrests in a puzzling case involving a single residence deliberately set ablaze four separate times in just over a month. Investigators announced Friday that a man and a woman are now facing charges in connection with the repeated fires that caused an estimated $100,000 in damages.

The ordeal began on December 13th, when police were first called to a suspicious fire at a home in Hamilton’s Stipley neighbourhood. Shockingly, this was just the beginning. The same property, along with an associated outbuilding, was intentionally set on fire three more times on December 14th, December 23rd, and finally, January 12th. Each incident left a trail of destruction, raising concerns about the safety of the community.

Following a thorough investigation, including a search warrant executed at a residence on Hamilton Mountain, police have charged 28-year-old Nicholas Tomsetti (Chine) with four counts each of arson – damage to property and possession of incendiary materials, as well as two counts of break and enter. Kayla Harris, 23, has also been charged with arson – damage to property and possession of incendiary materials. Both accused individuals are being held, with police opposing their bail.

Authorities emphasize that these incidents were highly specific and directed towards a single location, assuring the public there is no indication of a broader pattern of arsons. The investigation remains active, and additional charges could still be laid.

If you have any information that could assist investigators, please contact Det. Const. Chad Doan at 905-540-3819 or Det. Greg Blunsdon at 905-540-5085. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or their website.
