In a stunning display of intelligence and swift action, authorities in Lucknow have busted a major drug operation, seizing heroin valued at over Rs 10 crore in the international market. This significant interception took place on Friday, thanks to precise information received by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
The target? A passenger named Sandeep, reportedly from Delhi, who was traveling on a bus en route from Kathmandu to the capital city. DRI officials, acting on specific intelligence about him carrying narcotic substances, maintained close surveillance. Their patience paid off when they successfully intercepted the bus and detained the suspect in Lucknow for inspection.
What followed was a meticulous search of Sandeep’s luggage, which unveiled a shocking discovery: four packets containing a white powdery substance. A quick field test confirmed their suspicions – it was indeed heroin. The total weight of the seized contraband amounted to a staggering 5,209 grams, or just over 5.2 kilograms, giving it an estimated street value of approximately Rs 10.418 crore.
The illicit drugs were immediately seized under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the alleged peddler was taken into custody. This successful operation highlights the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal drug trade and protect communities from its devastating effects. Further investigations are currently underway to uncover the full extent of this network.
