High Wycombe residents have a huge reason to celebrate! After a 16-month closure, the much-missed Tesco superstore on Denmark Street made its triumphant return on Thursday, February 19th. Hundreds of eager shoppers lined up, cheering as the ribbon was cut, before stepping into the bright, modern, and spacious new store. Each visitor even received a free tote bag and pen – a perfect welcome back!
This reopening is more than just a grocery store returning; it’s a big step for High Wycombe’s town centre. The building, owned by Buckinghamshire Council, has undergone a fantastic transformation. While the ground floor is now a state-of-the-art Tesco, the upper floors are set to house new council offices and county archives, scheduled to open in spring 2027. This means more convenient services for residents, all in one central location.
Local leaders and Tesco representatives alike shared their excitement. Ross Powell, Tesco’s Community Engagement Manager, noted how much shoppers had missed the store. High Wycombe Mayor Majid Hussain praised the return, highlighting its positive impact on bringing more people to the town centre and boosting local businesses. He emphasized how vital it is for residents living in the heart of town to have easy access to a major supermarket.
This grand reopening is a key part of ambitious plans to revitalize High Wycombe. It signifies a significant investment in the community, bringing essential services, jobs, and renewed energy back to the town’s core. Get ready to fill your trolleys, High Wycombe – your favourite local superstore is officially back in business!
