Teenage Co-Conspirator Receives Maximum Youth Sentence

A teenage girl involved in two shocking murders has received the maximum sentence allowable under the Youth Criminal Justice Act: 10 years. This significant decision was handed down in Quebec Youth Court for her role in the 2023 killing of a 16-year-old boy.

At just 15 at the time of the Quebec crime, the girl pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. The court heard how she traveled from Ontario to Quebec, playing a full and active part in what was revealed to be a contract killing orchestrated by organized crime. While she wasn’t the one who pulled the trigger, Judge Hugo Rousse emphasized that “She was not a passive bystander,” but an integral participant in leading the victim to a farmer’s field where he was shot. His body was found hours later.

Tragically, this wasn’t her only involvement in such heinous acts. Earlier in the year, she also pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in Ontario, admitting to luring another young man from the West Island to his death.

The sentence for the Quebec crime comprises six years in custody, minus seven months already served, followed by four years of strict surveillance conditions. This outcome reflects a joint recommendation from both the prosecution and defence, deemed “just and appropriate” given the youth’s involvement. While the details of these cases remain largely under wraps due to publication bans protecting the victims’ identities and the youth’s identity, the court’s decision sends a clear message about accountability, even for young offenders in severe criminal schemes.
