The true spirit of giving radiated brightly this Christmas at Adintre, the incredible homeless charity in Fuengirola. Under the inspiring leadership of Joyce Gyimah BEM and her dedicated team, a festive feast was served, bringing warmth and joy to vulnerable individuals and families across the Costa del Sol.
On December 22, the Adintre centre transformed into a hub of cheer. Guests savoured a delicious turkey roast, meticulously prepared by Joyce and her volunteers. The air was filled with festive melodies from local musicians, and even children from families supported by Adintre joined in with beaming smiles and joyful voices. It was a truly special occasion, proving that even in challenging times, community and compassion can create unforgettable moments.
Joyce’s tireless work recently earned her the British Empire Medal (BEM), a well-deserved recognition of her unwavering commitment to the homeless and economically marginalised. Thanks to incredible local generosity, 2025 has seen significant progress for Adintre. The festive support continues with gourmet meals planned from El Oceano Beach Hotel and Cyrano restaurant, ensuring no one goes hungry during the holiday week. They even received a generous donation of handmade leather shoes, offering dignity and comfort to those who often arrive with little more than worn-out footwear.
Despite ongoing budget challenges – Adintre needs €250,000 annually and currently has €85,000 – Joyce remains remarkably optimistic. “There are so many kind hearts on the Costa del Sol,” she shared, full of gratitude. Her dreams extend beyond Spain, too, with a passionate side project in Ghana tackling illiteracy by building affordable housing near schools.
Adintre, under Joyce’s extraordinary leadership, does more than just provide meals; it offers hope, dignity, and a real chance for a brighter future. Her life’s devotion to lifting the most vulnerable is truly inspiring.
