Yemen on Edge: Coalition Issues Urgent Call for Stability

Yemen is once again at a critical crossroads, as the Saudi-led Arab coalition issues a powerful warning. The coalition declared Saturday it will take swift action against any military activity by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) that derails peace efforts or puts innocent lives at risk.

This strong stance comes after Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Chairman, Rashad al-Alimi, appealed for immediate protection for civilians in Hadramout, citing “serious and shocking humanitarian violations” by STC forces. Saudi Arabia and the UAE have been actively working to cool tensions, pressing the STC to pull back its forces, relinquish control of camps to National Shield Forces, and allow local authorities to govern effectively.

The message is unequivocal: any STC military moves that undermine these efforts will be dealt with “directly and immediately.” The overriding objective is to safeguard civilian lives and ensure the success of these vital Saudi-Emirati de-escalation initiatives. This firmly backs Yemen’s internationally recognized government, calling on all sides to show restraint and prioritize national responsibility.

These current escalations, including the STC’s recent takeover of parts of Hadramout and Mahra, are seen as a clear breach of agreements like the 2019 Riyadh Agreement, designed to integrate the STC into government structures. Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman has also publicly urged the STC to withdraw its forces, stating “it is time” to respond to peace efforts. The coalition’s unified message is clear: genuine stability in Yemen depends on all parties showing restraint, abiding by agreements, and cooperating for a brighter future.
