Imagine walking home, only to be dragged into a nightmare that mixes old-school brutality with modern digital crime. That’s exactly what happened to Kuldeep in Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area on January 2nd.

As he returned to his jhuggi, Kuldeep was approached by Ajay Sharma, who struck up a conversation. Moments later, the situation turned terrifying as Sachin alias Mohit appeared, brandishing a knife. Kuldeep was forcibly taken to a nearby jhuggi where Deepak alias DC was waiting.

What followed was a harrowing ordeal. Kuldeep was confined, severely beaten, tied up, and gagged. His captors demanded Rs 50,000. But instead of cash, they forced him to call his company manager and arrange for Rs 40,000 to be transferred directly to them in installments via UPI, using a QR code. This chilling act highlights a disturbing new trend in extortion.

After the digital payment was complete, Kuldeep was further threatened and then dropped off at his room late at night, warned not to speak a word. Thankfully, he managed to free himself with the help of his landlord and immediately reported the crime to the police.

Delhi Police acted swiftly. Utilizing CCTV footage and local intelligence, they tracked down and arrested all three accused: Sachin alias Mohit, Ajay Sharma, and Deepak alias DC. From the culprits, officers recovered a country-made pistol, a button-operated knife, and the mobile phone used for the online payments. Crucially, Rs 37,500 of the extorted money was also recovered, a mix of cash and funds traced to a bank account.

It turns out Sachin alias Mohit is a known criminal, with a history of 18 previous cases including murder and robbery. This quick police response brought an end to a terrifying ordeal and put dangerous individuals behind bars. Further investigation is ongoing.
