Karnataka has a new political legend! Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently etched his name into the state’s history books, becoming the longest-serving Chief Minister. On January 6th, he proudly equalled the remarkable record held by the late Devaraj Urs, an icon known for social justice and land reforms, with an impressive 2,792 days in office.

Siddaramaiah, currently in his second term at 77 years old, has consistently demonstrated his commitment to leadership. His first term, from May 2013 to May 2018, saw him complete a full five years – a rare feat after Urs himself. Now, with his second term well underway since May 2023, he has collectively surpassed all previous records for continuous service.

This significant milestone arrives amidst ongoing discussions about a potential “power-sharing” agreement within the ruling party. However, Siddaramaiah remains steadfast. He publicly stated that his entry into politics wasn’t about breaking records, but about serving the people. He expressed strong confidence in completing his full five-year term, emphasizing that the ultimate decision rests with the Congress high command. Even Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar acknowledged the achievement, extending his good wishes.

The people of Karnataka are certainly celebrating this historic moment! Fans and followers across the state have organized enthusiastic feasts, many featuring Siddaramaiah’s favorite ‘nati koli’ (country chicken), to mark his extraordinary achievement. It’s clear that his legacy continues to grow, leaving an indelible mark on the state’s political landscape.
