Get ready for a major upgrade in Germany’s naval power! The nation has officially ordered eight cutting-edge MQ-9B SeaGuardian drones from General Atomics, with deliveries kicking off in 2028. Why the new drones? Simply put, “the navy needs to know what is happening at sea,” says Berlin. These SeaGuardians will work hand-in-hand with existing P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft. Think of it this way: the Poseidon is a fast, powerful sprint runner, packed with sensors. The SeaGuardian, on the other hand, is an ultra-marathoner, able to stay airborne for exceptionally long periods, covering massive stretches of ocean from the North Atlantic to the Baltic Sea.
