The brutal conflict in Sudan continues to claim lives, with recent reports highlighting a devastating drone attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Dilling, South Kordofan state. Dozens were reportedly killed when suicide drones struck vital locations, including military headquarters and the central market, marking a tragic escalation in the region.
This assault came just after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced a breakthrough, lifting a long-standing RSF siege on Dilling and securing crucial supply lines. The town, strategically located between Kadugli and el-Obeid, has since endured a wave of drone attacks, threatening to re-establish the blockade despite the SAF’s continued hold.
The civil war, raging since April 2023, has already claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions. The humanitarian situation in Dilling is desperate, with local doctors pleading for an urgent humanitarian corridor to deliver life-saving food and medicine. Essential supplies, particularly health services and intravenous fluids, are critically scarce.
Beyond Dilling, the conflict has ravaged regions like Kordofan and Darfur. Reports of war crimes, including mass killings and sexual violence, have prompted an investigation by the International Criminal Court. The UN describes this as the world’s largest displacement and hunger crisis, with 14 million people forced from their homes and many refugees struggling in neighbouring countries like Chad due to dwindling aid. The urgent need for peace and humanitarian assistance remains paramount.
