In a significant win against illegal drug trafficking, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) recently executed a successful operation in Lucknow, leading to the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin and the arrest of one individual. This impressive bust highlights the continuous efforts of law enforcement to keep dangerous substances off our streets.
The operation, spearheaded by the CBN’s Uttar Pradesh Unit and supported by the Barabanki P&I cell, unfolded on the Lucknow-Sitapur Road, specifically at the Itaunja toll plaza in Bakhshi ka Talab tehsil. Acting on highly specific intelligence, officers zeroed in on their target: a suspect believed to be transporting heroin for delivery within Lucknow.
The CBN team moved swiftly, intercepting a roadways bus carrying the suspected individual. A thorough search of the suspect’s possession led to the discovery of 280 grams of heroin. To put this into perspective, the street value of heroin is an alarming Rs 7 crore per kilogram. This means the seized contraband alone is estimated to be worth a staggering Rs 1.96 crore in the illicit market!
Following the recovery, the narcotic substance was immediately seized, and the accused was taken into custody. They will face charges under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. This successful intervention not only removes a significant amount of illicit drugs from circulation but also sends a strong message to those involved in the illegal drug trade.
