For many members of our vibrant campus community, Ramadan is a deeply significant time of fasting, prayer, and coming together. As this holy month begins, UC Santa Cruz is delighted to offer a range of thoughtful accommodations and resources to ensure your observance is both spiritual and smooth.
**Savoring Iftar & Suhoor Made Simple**
No need to worry about meals! UCSC Dining Services is providing increased Halal options at all late-night dining halls, complete with traditional dates for breaking your fast (Iftar) until 11 p.m. For Suhoor, your pre-dawn meal, Porter and Merrill markets will stock convenient items like cereal, yogurt, and hard-boiled eggs. Plus, during Iftar, you can grab an Eco-Box with a second meal swipe (small deposit applies) for breakfast essentials, even on weekends during Ramadan!
**Dedicated Spaces for Prayer & Reflection**
Seeking a quiet spot for evening prayers? The College 9/John R. Lewis Community Room welcomes you nightly from 7:30 p.m. to midnight, offering dates and water. For moments of individual prayer, the interim Reflection Center at Stevenson College is also available.
**Academic Support for Your Journey**
We understand that Ramadan observance may require some flexibility. UCSC’s policy encourages reasonable academic accommodations for religious practices, including alternate test times or assignment extensions. It’s always a good practice to communicate proactively with your professors about any anticipated needs.
**Connect, Learn, and Celebrate!**
The UCSC Muslim Student Association (MSA) is planning a variety of engaging events throughout Ramadan. These are wonderful opportunities to connect with fellow students, deepen your understanding, and celebrate the spirit of the month. Keep an eye on their Instagram for updates!
Ramadan Mubarak to all observing! Your campus community stands with you in solidarity and support.
