A joint US-Israeli military campaign against Iran is underway, and former US President Donald Trump has offered a clear, if optimistic, timeline for its conclusion. He told the Daily Mail that the operation is expected to last “around four weeks – or less.” Speaking separately to the New York Times, he adjusted this slightly to “four to five weeks,” emphasizing that maintaining the intensity “won’t be difficult” thanks to ample military resources.
Trump stated he wasn’t surprised by the initial outcomes, claiming the operations were “ahead of schedule.” He reiterated his assertion that 48 Iranian leaders had been “eliminated,” a number “far, far more than what we thought.” When asked about Saudi Arabia’s involvement, he hinted they were “fighting too,” despite no official confirmation from Riyadh. A now-deleted CNN video had previously suggested Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman authorized strikes against Iran.
Looking to the future, Trump expressed hope for a democracy to emerge in Iran post-conflict, even suggesting he had “three very good choices” for future leadership.
The US military’s initial strikes, as reported by CENTCOM, targeted Iranian command centers, ballistic missile sites, naval vessels, and air defense systems. These operations involved powerful assets like B-2 stealth bombers, fighter jets, nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, and guided-missile destroyers.
However, the conflict hasn’t been without cost. Iran has retaliated with its own drone and missile strikes targeting Gulf countries, resulting in the deaths of three US service members and five serious injuries since the operations began.
