Still Fighting: Maguire Takes Mykonos Conviction to Supreme Court

Manchester United star Harry Maguire is once again heading to Greece’s Supreme Court, refusing to back down in a six-year legal battle stemming from a 2020 incident in Mykonos. Despite a recent appeals court decision upholding his conviction but reducing his suspended sentence to 15 months, Maguire is determined to clear his name.

The defender was originally found guilty of assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery. However, Maguire has consistently maintained his innocence, detailing a terrifying ordeal where he believed his sister, Daisy, was drugged and he feared for his family’s safety. He alleges he was beaten by men he suspected were impersonating police officers while attempting to get his sister to a hospital.

Sources close to Maguire reveal that he has rejected multiple out-of-court financial settlements, including one offered just hours before Wednesday’s hearing. His resolve stems from a deep commitment to proving he did nothing wrong, rather than simply making the case disappear.

This latest appeal effectively nullifies Wednesday’s judgment, much like his first appeal in 2020. This means the legal saga continues, but crucially, it leaves Maguire free of any travel restrictions. He remains available for Manchester United games and is eligible for England’s World Cup squad this summer.

Maguire has previously spoken of being “scared for his life” during the incident, where he alleges he was told his “career’s over.” His fight for justice continues as he stands firm against the accusations, denying any bribery claims and rejecting allegations he uttered “Do you know who I am?” This long-running saga highlights his unwavering belief in his innocence.
