Rotorua is buzzing, and its hotels are stepping up in a big way! With visitor demand roaring back to pre-Covid levels, millions of dollars are being poured into stunning refurbishments, transforming the city into an even more enticing destination.
Take the Millennium Hotel Rotorua, for instance. They’ve just completed their largest upgrade in nearly two decades, a multi-million dollar project spanning two years. All 228 rooms, suites, and even the exclusive Club Lounge (reopened after 2020!) have been reimagined. Guests are loving the expanded luxury, proving that travellers are seeking those extra comforts and personalized touches. General Manager Pipiana Whiston noted that this summer’s demand outstripped the last five years!
The Regent of Rotorua is also seeing fantastic growth. After reaching pre-Covid occupancy in 2023, they added 12 new rooms in a $5 million wing, allowing them to host over 3,000 extra visitors annually. Plus, they’ve invested over $1.25 million refurbishing 25 existing rooms and upgrading their outdoor pool.
Not to be outdone, Pullman Rotorua, the city’s first five-star international hotel, is planning exciting upgrades to its restaurant and meeting spaces, alongside exploring a new outdoor leisure area reflecting Rotorua’s unique geothermal identity. Even Sudima Rotorua and Arawa Park Hotel have undergone significant reinvestment and upgrades to cater to the booming market.
This wave of investment isn’t just organic; it’s fueled by strategic campaigns. RotoruaNZ, backed by over $4.5 million in government funding, launched initiatives to attract international visitors, with early results showing increased flight and hotel bookings, especially from Australia and North America.
It’s clear: Rotorua is back and better than ever. Operators are investing to meet a “clear and growing demand for quality accommodation,” solidifying its status as a must-visit destination poised for sustainable growth. Get ready to experience Rotorua like never before!
