Tigress on a Mission: Boosting Maharashtra’s Wild Population!

Big news from Maharashtra’s wild heartland! A beautiful sub-adult tigress has just embarked on a crucial journey, moving from the bustling Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to the scenic Sahyadri Reserve. This isn’t just a simple relocation; it’s a carefully planned mission vital for the future of India’s majestic big cats.

Dubbed T7fS2_f, this particular tigress, a daughter of the renowned T7, was expertly tranquilized by a dedicated team of forest officials, veterinary specialists, and rapid rescue personnel. The operation, executed within her vast home range spanning Tadoba and Kolara, was a testament to precision and care.

But why the big move? This captivating tigress is being introduced to Sahyadri as part of a grander conservation project. The goal? To re-establish a thriving, breeding tiger population in Sahyadri. By bringing in a genetically distinct individual like her, experts aim to prevent inbreeding, which can weaken a population, and significantly boost the long-term survival of tigers across Maharashtra. This isn’t a one-off event; she’s the second tigress to make this important transfer from Tadoba.

Before her journey, she received a thorough health check and was fitted with a VHF/GPS radio collar. This collar will allow conservationists to monitor her progress closely in her new home. Upon arrival at Sahyadri, she’ll first settle into a temporary enclosure for a controlled ‘soft release,’ giving her time to adapt to her new surroundings before venturing fully into the reserve. This strategic move is a shining example of how dedicated conservation efforts are actively shaping a brighter future for Maharashtra’s precious tiger population. It’s an exciting time for wildlife lovers!
