A day of horror at Sydney’s bustling Bondi Beach was met with an incredible act of bravery, as a bystander heroically disarmed one of the attackers amidst a terrifying shooting incident.
Footage shows a man in a white shirt, initially crouching for cover as a gunman fired shots dangerously close. In a breathtaking display of courage, he seized an opening, rushing through parked cars to tackle the shooter in a headlock. After a tense struggle, he managed to wrench the weapon from the attacker’s grasp, pointing it back at him as the gunman retreated towards his alleged accomplice, who continued to fire nearby.
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns was quick to praise the man, declaring him a “genuine hero” and crediting his bravery with saving “many, many people alive tonight.”
The tragic incident resulted in 12 fatalities, including one of the attackers. Police confirmed the second gunman was critically injured, with two police officers among several others hurt. One attacker has been identified as Naveed Akram, with investigations ongoing as authorities work to understand the full scope of what happened.
